This page explains what data BibleQuid (the www.biblequid.com website and the Android app) collects, what it is used for, how long it is kept and what your rights are.

Controller

BibleQuid is a personal, non-commercial project run by Mikaël, who is the controller of your data. For any question or request: admin@biblequid.com.

Data we collect

Your account

  • your username and your e-mail address;
  • your password, for an account created on BibleQuid;
  • your Google identifier, if you sign in with Google (Google also sends us your e-mail address and your name; when the account is created, your name is used to build your BibleQuid username — unaccented letters, digits and “_” only — which other players can see; the name is not stored otherwise);
  • your preferred language and whether you want to receive the newsletter;
  • the date you signed up and the date of your last login.

Your games

  • your answers: question, chosen answer, result, time taken and game;
  • your games, your trophies, your rating and your daily-question streak;
  • the question reports you send, with the optional text you add.

Without an account, your answers are also recorded, under an anonymous account shared by all visitors, together with the technical data below.

Technical data

  • your IP address, stored with your account when you sign up and with each answer;
  • your browser (user-agent) and your session identifier, stored with each answer;
  • for verses in Armenian, a counter per IP address (the address is replaced by a fingerprint), which only keeps the display times of the last 24 hours.

Challenges

When you challenge someone by e-mail, we store the invited person’s e-mail address and the optional message you write. The invitation e-mail contains your username, your e-mail address and your message. The invited person can decline the challenge or ask not to receive any more; in that case, their address is kept on an opt-out list so that we no longer write to them.

Cookies and browser storage

  • PHPSESSID: your session (login, game in progress);
  • lang and lang_app: the chosen language, on the website and in the app (1 year);
  • bq_app: indicates that the website is displayed in the Android app (1 year);
  • cookieConsent: your choice in the cookie banner (1 year);
  • _ga and _ga_*: Google Analytics, set only if you accept it.

The browser also keeps a few values that are not sent to the server: bq_install_dismissed_until (local storage: the date until which the offer to install the app stays hidden), bq_app, bq_app_recover and bq_app_reload (session storage, related to display in the app).

What the data is used for

  • running the game and your account (login, games, statistics, trophies);
  • calculating the rating of players and of questions;
  • sending challenge e-mails, account-related e-mails (forgotten password) and the newsletter, if you asked for it;
  • measuring the site’s audience with Google Analytics, if you accepted it;
  • limiting abuse, in particular through a cap on Armenian verses displayed per IP address.

This processing is based on the service you request by playing, on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the game, and on your consent for the newsletter and Google Analytics.

Your username, your rating and your scores may be seen by other players (rankings, challenges, game results).

Recipients

  • OVH, which hosts the website and the database in France and delivers the e-mails;
  • Google, if you choose to sign in with Google, and for Google Analytics if you accept it. Google may process this data outside the European Union and Switzerland.

Your data is neither sold nor used for advertising. Exchanges with the website are encrypted (HTTPS).

How long data is kept

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists, except the IP address, browser and session identifier stored with each answer: they are erased after 13 months, for all players, with or without an account. When you delete your account:

  • your account is erased: username, e-mail address, password or link with Google, preferences, rating and trophies;
  • the messages of the challenges you sent are erased, and your e-mail address is replaced in the challenges you received;
  • if you had asked not to receive challenges any more, your e-mail address stays on the opt-out list, so that no challenge is sent to you again;
  • your answers, games and reports are kept without your username, e-mail address, IP address, browser or session identifier, for question statistics (any text you wrote in a report is kept as written).

The Armenian verse counter only keeps the last 24 hours. The host’s technical logs follow OVH’s policy. Google Analytics cookies are erased when you click “Refuse”; otherwise they expire on their own, according to their lifetime.

Your rights

  • Access and rectification: write to admin@biblequid.com. Language and newsletter can also be changed in your profile.
  • Erasure: delete your account from the Delete my account page, or ask by e-mail.
  • Newsletter: turn it off at any time in your profile.
  • Google Analytics: withdraw your consent with the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of every page.
  • Objection and restriction: ask by e-mail.

If possible, write from your account’s e-mail address, so that we can check it is really you. If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL (France, cnil.fr) or with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, Switzerland, edoeb.admin.ch).

Android app

The BibleQuid Android app displays the same website. It collects no additional data and accesses no data on your device (contacts, location, camera, files…). This policy therefore also applies to the app.
